QUEEN GAMES

Saturday, 9th December 2023 (10:00 – 18:00)

| December’23 Events | Events Index |

ALHAMBRA – Revised Edition

The best master builders from Europe and Arabia want to demonstrate their skills. However, whether they are stonemaisons from the north or horticulturalists from the south, they all want a proper wage and insist in being paid in their native currency.

Employ the best teams of builders and ensure you have enough of the right currency, and with their help, you can construct towers, lay out gardens, erect pavilions and arcades, and build seraglios and ornate chambers.

Compete against your opponents to build the ALHAMBRA.

2-6 Players  |  40-60 min  |  Ages 14+

COPENHAGEN

„Nyhavn“ (New Harbor) is famous for its houses with colorful gables built along the waterside. The players face the challenge of constructing new facades in a way that fits perfectly in with this picturesque harbor scenery.

The goal of the game is to be the first player to score 12 or more points, or to have the most points when the End of Game card is revealed.

Players will collect cards of different colors from the display, which they can use to purchase facade tiles of the same color in different shapes and sizes. Players will use these tiles to construct the facade of their house little by little.

2-4 Players  |  20-40 min  |  Ages 8+

DRAGON QUEST

In “Dragon Quest”, you start your journey as a brave hero, fighting your way through a dangerous castle full of traps, monsters, and treasures. Every step you take could be your last, as ghouls, trolls, orcs, and even poisonous spiders lurk around you. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. With every battle won and every trap overcome, you collect valuable gold coins and powerful artifacts to help you master the challenges.

The treasure chamber is the ultimate goal. Here you can collect incredible riches, but be careful, the dragon might wake up! And if you manage to reach the exit before sunset, you have overcome the dangers of the castle and can sum up the value of all treasures, items, and gold coins.

But beware, time is your greatest enemy. If the sun sets before you reach the exit, the darkness will devour you. And if you lose all your life points, through fighting monsters or stepping into traps, then your hero is dead.

“Dragon Quest” is a game that tests both your strategic skills and your courage. It’s a game full of risks and rewards that constantly challenges you and never gets boring.

Become the hero who overcomes the castle, defeats the dragon, and walks away with the greatest treasures.

1-4 Players  |  45+ min  |  Ages 12+

FRESCO – Revised Edition

As fresco painters you are restoring the large ceiling of the cathedral on behalf of the bishop. Good planning is always necessary. Colours must be bought, the fresco restored and new colours mixed. Only those who plan wisely can score the most victory points and become the most successful fresco painter.

Besides the basic game, the game contains two expansion modules. “The special colour mixtures” and “The favour of the bishop”. You can combine these with the basic game according to your wishes. They offer new challenges and extend the game duration.

2-4 Players  |  60 min  |  Ages 10+

FUTURE ENERGY

Imagine you’re the head of an energy corporation in the heart of Europe. Your mission? To shape the energy supply of the future! Welcome to “Future Energy,” the board game that takes you into the fascinating world of renewable energies.

In “Future Energy,” it’s not just about building power plants. You have to plan ahead to earn the most money and the most valuable CO2 certificates. These resources are your key to new, innovative construction contracts that will elevate your energy empire to the next level.

But what’s a power plant without an efficient electrical grid? Invest in your own power lines and earn transit fees when other players use your network. The larger and more efficient your grid, the more advantages you’ll enjoy. And don’t forget: Moving on your own power lines is free. Use that to your advantage!

Your goal is to be present in as many European regions as possible. Cleverly connect your power plants through your grid and secure additional CO2 certificates at the end of the game. Whoever has the most victory points at the end will be crowned the undisputed Energy King of Europe!

2-4 Players  |  60+ min  |  Ages 8+

LUXOR

Hunting for precious treasures, groups of adventurers search the legendary temple at Luxor.

The adventurers race to reach the tomb chamber of the Pharaoh. However, the temple’s passageways contain many treasures for them to collect. The players move their adventurers from tile to tile by playing cards from their hands. The closer each adventurer gets to the tomb chamber, and the more treasures they collect, the more victory points they will earn. The game ends at the end of any round if there are 2 adventurers in the tomb chamber. The player that has collected the most victory points (VPs) is the winner!

2-4 Players  |  45 min  |  Ages 8+

OLD LONDON BRIDGE

To help with the planned reconstruction you assume the role of an architect. The new foundation will be made from stone, meaning that it can support buildings on the bridge itself. You must compete to have the most pristine section of the new bridge.

By constructing chapels, bridge gates, hostelries, guild houses, haberdashers, and parks in the proper order, and by utilizing the special actions to your advantage, you will become the wealthiest builder at the end of the game and be declared the winner.

2-4 Players  |  45+ min  |  Ages 10+

POWERLINE

You have been tasked with building an efficient power network by connecting power stations to supply cities with sustainable energy (and earn victory points). The dice will play a crucial role, since they specify the order in which you have to construct the diff erent powerlines. But which city do you want to supply first, and which power stations will be the easiest to connect?

Each round offers interesting choices and requires you to search for the best combinations in order to score. The player with the most VP after the final scoring is the winner of Powerline!

The game includes several variants, allowing you to tailor the experience to fi t your desired level of challenge.

1-6 Players  |  45+ min  |  Ages 8+

RUNE STONES

Players will take on the role of druids who must prove their skills handling the powerful rune stones. Summon creatures by magic and benefit from their abilities, all in a search to gain precious gems. These gems must go to the talented dwarfs, who know how to use them to make artifacts.

As their collection of artifacts grows, the druid’s rune stones become more powerful. Each stone gives the druid a permanent ability (as well as power points). The abilities will aid in acquiring gems and artifacts, and the power points increase the player’s chance of claiming the coveted throne.

The druid with the most power points at the end of the game ascends the throne and is the winner of the game.

2-4 Players  |  60 min  |  Ages 12+

WINTER KINGDOM

You will expand your kingdom by constructing houses and forts on various types of terrain. Work wisely to gather a variety of different abilities and gain victory points. Use the coins to acquire skills that give you special advantages.

The variable game board, the different skills and the constantly changing combinations of winning conditions create an outstanding variety. With the use of a twist card you can even change the basic rules.

PLAY! POKÉMON

The Play! Pokémon Grassroots Program is a series of events hosted by Play! Pokémon Stores, where Pokémon fans come together as a community. Whether trading the newest cards, playing a couple of casual games, or competing in Premier Events, program participants enjoy a great time while playing the games they love.

Events are open to anyone who wants to play (or learn to play) the Pokémon Trading Card Game. We can teach you all of the basics that you need. Everybody has to start somewhere and even if you are confident in the game’s mechanics, it can still take a few games to adjust to playing people that you don’t already know. Mostly this is just a psychological hurdle, not too difficult to overcome and, when with other Pokémon fans, players generally adapt very quickly.

Parents are encouraged to play too. The kids will do all the hard work of building your deck for you, so you can join in simply by learning the basic game mechanics.

As you proceed through the various events (detailed below) the structure becomes a little more formal and the competition gets a bit stronger. Prerelease and League are simply play events. Challenge is an introduction to tournament play, and Cup events are a stepping stone to much larger competitions and venues.

All Pokémon TCG events separate players by age, loosely: <10, 11-14, and 15+. For simplicity, this is based only upon the YEAR in which you are born (so the age brackets are a little fuzzy). Each Pokemon tournament effectively runs as three separate events – provided that there are at least 4 players in each age category – and in all cases final standings are calculated for each of the three age groups individually. You may occasionally play outside of your age group, but you only compete within your age bracket.

Pokemon Prerelease logo

Prerelease events allow players to receive and play with cards from the newest Pokémon TCG expansion before the expansion’s official release date.

  • Quarterly tournament
  • New cards from the latest expansion up to two weeks before release date
  • Each Build & Battle Box contains:
    • A 40-card ready-to-play deck, including 1 of 4 alternate-art promo cards
    • 4 booster packs (10 cards and 1 basic Energy per pack)
  • Additional booster packs for all participants

Pokémon TCG Prerelease events at Clifton Road Games, Exeter:

Pokemon League logo

Pokémon League is a fun and accessible way for Pokémon fans to get together and have some fun! League events are open to all Pokémon TCG players regardless of experience level or skill. Using your own cards, you can play, trade, and even earn cool prizes! The best part is that you can do all this with other Pokémon players who love collecting and playing just as much as you do.

Pokémon League events are a great way to learn game basics and get the feel for Pokémon competitive play before beginning to compete in Pokémon tournaments.

Pokémon League runs every Friday afternoon at Clifton Road Games, Exeter. From 3pm, until 6pm for the younger players, on into the evening for older/adult players.

Transport

Cars: The Triangle Car Park is at the end of Clifton Road. In addition, there are 30-minute parking bays just up the road near Newtown Stores convenience shop, as well as 2-hour bays in each of the side roads off of Clifton Road (Clifton Street, Chute Street, Sandford Walk, etc). If you have an electric vehicle, there are charging points in Belmont Road (along the front of Belmont Park), on the left from the end of Clifton Road.

Bus: The nearest bus stop is Lower Summerlands at the junction of Clifton Road and Heavitree Road. The new Exeter Bus Station is only a few yards further away, by St. Sidwell’s Point Leisure Centre and the VUE Cinema (walk down past the VUE cinema, across Western Way, between the Leonardo Hotel – formerly Jury’s Inn – and Belmont Chapel to the Triangle Car Park and then turn left past The Clifton Inn).

FOOD & DRINK

Clifton Road Games do not provide or sell food and/or drinks on the premises, but customers are welcome to bring their own.

Newtown Stores is just up the road (on your left as you exit the shop), The Clifton Inn has an in-house bakery, as well as their regular pub menu, and is also just up the road (on the right as you exit). Exe Coffee Roasters are across the Triangle Car Park (opposite the Pyramids Leisure Centre).

We generally advise that gamers take specific breaks for food and drinks, rather than snacking throughout. It’s safer for the games components.

Customer toilets are available. Note that these are wheelchair accessible but not fully equipped as disabled facilities (ie. they do have extra space for a wheelchair and low hand basins; they don’t have hand rails or emergency assistance alarms).
