Magic the Gathering: Prerelease Weekend – March of the Machine

Any prerelease kits remaining after Friday evening will be available for play on Saturday & Sunday

Event Information

In-store prelease events are sealed deck, where each player builds a 40+ card deck from the cards in the Prerelease Pack (plus any basic land cards that they require). Each prerelease kit also includes a brief ‘How To’ guide for anyone not already familiar with the format. Players are then paired up for 3+ rounds of head-to-head play.

Prerelease events are designed to be fairly casual and players are free to modify their deck throughout the event (between games, using only the cards contained in their prerelease kit).

Each pack costs £25. Each event lasts for 3-4 hours (deck building + 3 rounds of up to 50 minutes each).

March of the Machine Prerelease Pack:

  • 6 March of the Machine Draft Boosters
  • 1 foil, year-stamped Rare or Mythic Rare
  • 1 deck box
  • 1 spindown d20 die

Each March of the Machine Draft Booster contains 15 cards, with a combination of 1 card of rarity Rare or higher and 3 Uncommon, 10 Common, and 1 Land cards. 1 Legendary Creature in every booster. Traditional Foil of any rarity replaces a Common in 33% of boosters.

Transport

Cars: The Triangle Car Park is at the end of Clifton Road. In addition, there are 30-minute parking bays just up the road near Newtown Stores convenience shop, as well as 2-hour bays in each of the side roads off of Clifton Road (Clifton Street, Chute Street, Sandford Walk, etc). If you have an electric vehicle, there are charging points in Belmont Road (along the front of Belmont Park), on the left from the end of Clifton Road.

Bus: The nearest bus stop is Lower Summerlands at the junction of Clifton Road and Heavitree Road. The new Exeter Bus Station is only a few yards further away, by St. Sidwell’s Point Leisure Centre and the VUE Cinema (walk down past the VUE cinema, across Western Way, between Jury’s Inn and Belmont Chapel to the Triangle Car Park and then turn left past The Clifton Inn).

FOOD & DRINK

Clifton Road Games do not provide or sell food and/or drinks on the premises, but customers are welcome to bring their own.

Newtown Stores is just up the road (on your left as you exit the shop), The Clifton Inn has an in-house bakery, as well as their regular pub menu, and is also just up the road (on the right as you exit). Exe Coffee Roasters are across the Triangle Car Park (opposite the Pyramids Leisure Centre).

We generally advise that gamers take specific breaks for food and drinks, rather than snacking throughout. It’s safer for the games components.

Customer toilets are available. Note that these are wheelchair accessible but not fully equipped as disabled facilities (ie. they do have extra space for a wheelchair and low hand basins; they don’t have hand rails or emergency assistance alarms).

Star Trek: Ascendancy

Game Day

Friday, 7th April 2023

Boldly go where no one has gone before. In Star Trek: Ascendancy — a board game of exploration, expansion and conflict between the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire — you control the great civilizations of the Galaxy, striking out from your home worlds to expand your influence and grow your civilization. Will you journey for peace and exploration, or will you travel the path of conquest and exploitation? Command starships, establish space lanes, construct starbases, and bring other systems under your banner. With more than 200 plastic miniatures and 30 star systems representing some of the Star Trek galaxy’s most notable planets and locations, Star Trek: Ascendancy puts the fate of the galaxy in your hands.

The great unknown lies before you; with every turn is a new adventure as your ships explore new space systems, encounter new life forms and new civilizations, make wondrous discoveries, and face challenging obstacles, all drawn from the vast fifty year history of Star Trek. Will you brave the hazards of Rura Penthe to harvest vital resources, race to develop Sherman’s Planet before your rivals stake their claim, or explore the mysteries of the Mutara Nebula on an ever-growing, adaptive map of the galaxy. With an infinite combination of planets and interstellar phenomena, no two games of Star Trek: Ascendancy will ever play the same!

Oros

Oros (board game, box front)

Oros is a tile-colliding, volcano erupting, mountain-making, wisdom-gathering, action-economy strategy game.

On individual player mats, players move their Followers between action spaces, allowing them to manipulate a shared environment like a giant puzzle of plate tectonics.

Action spaces allow players to shift rows of land, move and collide land tiles, form and erupt volcanoes, worship to gain wisdom, journey their Followers around the ever-shifting landscape, and build sacred places of study and worship on mountains.

Flamecraft

Flamecraft (board game, box front)

In Flamecraft, players take on the role of Flamekeepers, gathering items, placing dragons and casting enchantments to enhance the shops of the town. Dragons are specialized (bread, meat, iron, crystal, plant and potion) and the Flamekeepers know which shops are the best home for each. Visit a shop to gain items and a favor from one of the dragons there. Gathered items can be used to enchant a shop, gaining reputation and the favors of all the dragons in the shop. If you are fortunate enough to attract fancy dragons then you will have opportunities to secure even more reputation.

The prophets speak of the Angel of Death and his descent upon the Earth to bring forth the End of Days. The chosen few will be given the power to shape these ordeals and bring onto others both punishment and salvation. Their deeds will be a testament to the will and strength of the mortal.

Destinies is a competitive, story-driven, game of adventure and exploration, mixing an app and a board game. The Destinies system offers a fully story-driven, app-supported, RPG-like board game experience without the need for a game master. Each scenario pictures a part of a vivid world, full of dark stories, epic characters, and mysteries to solve. Each player takes the role of a hero on a quest to fulfill their destiny.

Small Islands

Small Islands is a tile-placement game in which you are daring explorers discovering a magnificent archipelago. Its islands are brimming with natural resources but also temples from an ancient and mysterious civilization. Brave adventurers, bring back to your clan wealth & prestige!

A game is played in maximum 4 Rounds. At the beginning of each Round, each player secretly picks an Objective Card out of three cards. And in turn, players draw and place a Landscape Tile out of the 5 available (2 in hand, and 3 on the table). At a certain point, another option becomes available: placing a Ship Tile. When this tile is placed, in turn, all players place Houses on the islands and earn Prestige Points according to their Objective. Then players start a new Round. When the game ends, players receive additional points for their Ship Tiles.

Each turn players will secretly choose one character to play hidden in front of them. These characters such as The Oracle, The Sorcerer, or The Troublemakers will affect the orbs of power belonging to each player and thus impact the outcome of each round.
