Cars: The Triangle Car Park is at the end of Clifton Road. In addition, there are 30-minute parking bays just up the road near Newtown Stores convenience shop, as well as 2-hour bays in each of the side roads off of Clifton Road (Clifton Street, Chute Street, Sandford Walk, etc). If you have an electric vehicle, there are charging points in Belmont Road (along the front of Belmont Park), on the left from the end of Clifton Road.

Bus: The nearest bus stop is Lower Summerlands at the junction of Clifton Road and Heavitree Road. The new Exeter Bus Station is only a few yards further away, by St. Sidwell’s Point Leisure Centre and the VUE Cinema (walk down past the VUE cinema, across Western Way, between the Leonardo Hotel – formerly Jury’s Inn – and Belmont Chapel to the Triangle Car Park and then turn left past The Clifton Inn).

FOOD & DRINK

Clifton Road Games do not provide or sell food and/or drinks on the premises, but customers are welcome to bring their own.

Newtown Stores is just up the road (on your left as you exit the shop), The Clifton Inn has an in-house bakery, as well as their regular pub menu, and is also just up the road (on the right as you exit). Exe Coffee Roasters are across the Triangle Car Park (opposite the Pyramids Leisure Centre).

Celebration Event

Celebration Event Information

Jumpstart introduces new players to Magic: The Gathering. All you need to do is open two packs, shuffle them together, and play! With two packs combined, players have all the spells and lands they need in one 40-card deck.

Players who register for the event using their individual Wizards Account and play 3 rounds of Jumpstart are eligible to receive promo materials at the event.*

* In my opinion there’s no getting around the marketing pitch here – Jumpstart is an excellent way to introduce new players to Magic the Gathering but… Celebration is also a pretty transparent attempt to get people (and stores) to sign up for the Magic Companion App (and, ultimately, MTG Arena). Pick your poison: most in-store players have the app anyway – relentless corporate data-harvesting (and personal cynicism) aside, it is a very good system with a great deal to recommend it – Jumpstart is an ideal starting point, plus Lord of the Rings, and they are tempting people with dice and promo cards.
They know.
We know that they know.
They know that we know that they know…

For anyone relatively new to or keen to try out Magic: the Gathering, the Lord of the Rings ‘Celebration Event’ is an ideal place to begin.

Entry is £12 per player, for two Magic the Gathering, Lord of the Rings – Jumpstart booster packs, plus assorted MTG promo items (while stocks last).

Free RPG Day 2023 @ Clifton Road Games, Exeter (2023-06-24)

Free RPG Day

A very brief summary of some the games from this year’s kit is now included below. Many are intended as fully self-contained pick-up and play scenarios (with enough info to run the game, even if you aren’t already familiar with the full system). There are some solo options (eg. Loup Garou / Level 1).

If you want to play, all you need to do is turn up.

If you’d like to run one of the games, you may want to contact us in advance… but you can just turn up. As mentioned, the majority of these scenarios assume that you are just going to pick up the booklet and play. Specifically, the G.I. Joe / Transformers scenario seems to assume that you have access to one of the two related Core Rulebooks, Avatar and Root look like the GM may need half-an-hour to read through the core concepts, and – at the other end of the scale – for Mazes you just read the paragraph on page one out loud and you’re up and running!

On the Day …

Sessions are loosely organised as: 11-2pm and 3-6pm. If there is sufficient interest we will also run a 7-10pm session.

Regular opening hours for the shop are 10am-6pm, and later on games evenings.

Contact Us …

You can contact the shop, use Facebook, or chat with people on the Discord.

Included in the Free RPG Day 2023 store kit …
